2010 North Coast Classic a Huge Success

The 2010 North Coast Classic surf and golf competition was held over Halloween weekend and whether you were on sand or at the course the word of the moment was “awesome”. We were able to raise over $3500 for “Doctors Without Borders” and “SurfAid International” thanks to the hard work of our volunteer staff and the generous support of the Surf Industry. SurfAid International can really use the help with the current tsunami disaster in Indonesia so everybody involved should feel really good about the effort. Thank you everyone.

The karma was definitely on our side since the surf was down right epic for Saturday’s surf contest. Perfect conditions all day long, great sand bar, and a clean 3-5 ft swell. Many competitors reckoned it was some of the best surf ever for a contest. The only thing that topped the waves was the level of surfing going on. We all knew Ratboy could surf a shortboard like a maniac, blasting huge airs and moving at supersonic speed, but his longboard skills blew us all away. That boy has skills and it appears this contest was made for him. This event is unique in that all competitors must surf 2 heats of shortboard and 2 heats of longboard therfore testing all of your surfing skills. Great performances were turned in by everyone with standouts Jesse Adams, Tyler Smith, Charlie Parker, Jason Collins, Tyler Payne, Travis Payne and Curt Myers. Lots of positive feedback after the surf event, everyone was super stoked. Time to think golf.

Once again karma was still with us. All week it had been dark and grey skies and a little chilly but Sunday morning we woke to bright blue skies and warm temperatures, perfect for golf. The surf even dropped so everyone didn’t have to worry about missing it. Wow. The Half Moon Bay Ocean Course was in pristine shape and everyone was amazed at how fast and true the greens were rolling. The staff at Half Moon Bay Golf Links were awesome, top notch and all paticipants were witness to how it feels to play on the PGA. The scores turned in were beyond respectable with Adam Stone, the Rip Curl Rep, shooting a 69. How’s that for being a double threat? Hard to beat I reckon. Many people shot very impressive golf scores with Jason Collins, Jason Schmittler, Jay Brazil and Wardy Walkup bringing in the 70’s. While everyone didn’t shoot two digits everyone agreed it was phenomenal two day event.

After golf we had a barbecue and awards ceremony at the golf course restaurant, Mullins. We handed out some beautiful hand made trophies and merchandise to our winners and raffled off donations including a beautiful Shawn Rhodes surfboard. The feedback after the event was incredibly positive and everyone was already looking forward to next year. What an awesome group of people.

I would like to thank everyone for participating and being very generous in supporting our fundraising efforts as without you it would not be possible. Thanks very much to the surf industry for their support; notibly NorCal Surf Shop, Quiksilver, Rip Curl, FCS, Sharp Eye Surfboards, Global Surf Industries, Freeline Surfboards, Body Glove, Rhythm, Electric, Freestyle, Traction Glass, Powerline Productions, Sonlight Surf Shop, Surf Spot Resturant, Ward Walkup Surfboards and OAM. I hope I didn’t leave anyone off the list since your generosity is what makes this event a success.

Well I’m already gearing up for next year and have a few new things up my sleeve for next year so stay tuned. I feel very fortunate to have all the wonderful friends and family that helped to pull this event off. I’m truely blessed.

Thank you all, Norm Payne

ITS THAT TIME AGAIN

Hi and welcome back to the P-Town Classic. This year we decided to change the name to NORTH COAST CLASSIC, to create a more "global" appeal. We will continue to raise money for Surf Aid (www.surfaidinternational.org) as well as Doctors Without Borders (www.doctorswithoutborders.org) in the 2010 event.

This years event is all set to go on October 30Th and 31st. Saturdays surfing event will be held at Linda Mar Beach (location on beach to be announced). And this year we will get to play golf at the world class Half Moon Bay Ocean course! So bring your A game, the greens play true and the balls roll fast.

HOW IT WORKS

As in the years past we will be running a individual, and Team format. This means you can surf and play golf as an individual, or Team up with a surfer, or golfer and "split" the event (one plays golf, the other surfs). Team and individuals DO NOT get scored against each other. There will be separate awards for each division. We will have age divisions pending further entries in the individual category only.

SURFING
Surfing Coordinator: Steve Dwyer

Event to be held at Linda Mar Beach. Location on Linda Mar to vary depending on swell condition. We will be running a non elimination format. We feel that this makes the event more enjoyable for all levels of surfers. The way this works is each person will surf in 4 heats total throughout the day. The Surfer will ride a short board in 2 heats and a long board in 2 heats (total 4 Heats). No a SUP is not a long board, sorry Jeff. Your FIRST short and FIRST long board heat will be put together randomly of 6 people.
Competitors surf 2 heats of long board, and 2 heats of short board. your first heat score will determine your seeding in the second round.

GOLF
Golf Coordinator: Dale Pitt

We have made a few changes to this years golf tournament. The biggest change is the location. Golfers will get to play the challenging, and beautiful Ocean Course at Half Moon Bay gold links, Located about 15 minutes south of Pacifica. We will play stroke play through 18 holes. Golfers will start in a "Shot-gun" format. This format allows for all golfers to start and finish at the same time. Diffrent awards will be given for high score, low score, closest to the pin, longest drive...etc.

After we finish the golf tournament, we will combine the scores from both days, and determine the standings.

BBQ and Awards will be given after the Golf tournament in Half Moon Bay.
We are looking forward to seeing you all again in the events 4Th year!!!
